Early Day Motion: Faith in Later Life
Faith in Later Life is a Christian charity which seeks to reach, serve and empower older people in their communities. As an organisation, we have been established for a number of years and it is important for us that we are a voice, both to the church and wider society, in changing the narrative around older people.
Faith in Later Life was set up by a number of Christian care home providers, London City Mission and the Salvation Army. We care passionately about how older people are served practically and spiritually.
The pandemic has brought into sharper focus the needs of our older people in society and it is something that allows us to speak into the political system about the need for the work of the church to be recognised and affirmed. We also need to celebrate the contributions at a local level. For the last few years, Faith in Later Life has set up a Church Champion network which brings together people from across the UK who are passionate about learning what it means to be upskilled to then go out and serve.
We are delighted that, through our Ambassador, Professor Keith Brown, we have a voice into Parliament. Last February, we celebrated a Parliamentary Reception which a number of MP's were present at.
Recently, Jim Shannon MP, published an early day motion which called on MP's to acknowledge the work of Faith in Later Life, which now has around 500 Church Champions but also the wider contribution that churches make to the serving of older people. We are delighted that Stephen Timms MP (former Chair of Christians on the Left) has signed this early day motion, particularly as Chair of the APPG for Faith and Society.
However, it's important that all MP's are aware of this motion and encouraged to sign.
YOU could write to your local MP and ask them to sign EDM 433.
It might take you half an hour, or even less!
Mention that you read about the motion, that you support the aims of Faith in Later Life, tell your MP where they can read more about it, and don’t forget to thank them for all their other work in parliament or locally, even if you don’t agree with all their politics!
Thank you for your help! Let's keep celebrating our commitment to older people.
