In 2021 with the return of some in-person events to public life, Labour Party Conference is back!
Carl Brettle, Adam May and Pastor Tunde Balogun from the Neighbourhood Prayer Network came to the Labour Party Conference Church Service at One Church Brighton, where they challenged and encouraged Christians on the Left as a movement to be a people of prayer. They also encouraged the Labour Party that christians all over the UK are both taking action through thousands of church initiatives and praying every month for their streets and communities.
Archbishop Anba Angaelos, head of the Coptic Orthodox Church in the UK, sent his reflections on persecution for our panel with Sat-7 at Party Conference 2021 “Free to Believe - Can religious freedom be assured?”.
CotL Officer Stephen Beer chaired this excellent event with Fleur Anderson MP (APPG, International Freedom of Religious Belief) Stephen Doughty MP (Shadow Minister for Africa & International Development) and others.
Many people believe slavery ended long ago. This couldn’t be further from the truth. We have been priviledged to hear Esther Swaffield-Bray (England Director) speak to our National Day Conference 2019 and CEO David Westlake speak at the Labour Party Conference Service in Brighton.
We are proud to promote and support their multi-dimensional approach to ending slavery including legal, political and practical actions.
At Party Conference 2019 & 2021, World Vision partnered with us for events raising the plight of vulnerable children. Events included a Prayer Breakfast titled: Ending violence against children. World Vision in the World’s largest refugee camp and a panel titled “Faith in Aid?” with other faith-based international aid organisations.
Speakers at the various events included Grace Blakeley of the New Statesman, Preet Gill MP - then Shadow Minister for International Development, Rev Barbara Glasson, Hilary Benn MP and Kate Green MP
We are pleased to work alongside Catholics for Labour, who work to support Members of Parliament who profess a Catholic faith.
Our panel with SERA at Party Conference 2021 was chaired by CotL Vice-Chair Hannah Rich as we heard perspectives on overseas Aid and Trade from Preet Gill MP & Emily Thornberry MP, responding to some great challenges from Tearfund, World Vision and Christian Aid.
At Party Conference 2019, Marsha de Cordova MP and Stephen Timms MP led prayers at our Prayer Breakfast “How can we build a more compassionate welfare state?” with the Trussell Trust.
They know it takes more than food to end hunger. The Trussell Trust bring together the experiences of food banks in their network, and those communities, to challenge the structural economic issues that lock people in poverty and campaign for change to end the need for food banks in the UK.
